Jim Bean Preco Electronics President & CEO |
Things have been busy at PRECO Electronics! As we say goodbye to summer and welcome the early days of fall, we are very excited to introduce two new products that will help revolutionize safety in heavy-duty industries: PreView Side Defender™ and PreView Sentry™.
Our engineering team works tirelessly to design object detection systems that help protect the people who work in heavy-duty industries, with one main goal in mind: that everyone makes it home safely. Our newest products further that mission with an eye toward the future. Expect more flexibility and intelligent capabilities—with the same robustness, reliability and quality you have come to expect from PRECO. As we look to the future, PRECO will continue innovate; helping heavy-duty industries improve the safety of roads and worksites throughout the world.
Global initiatives are creating a worldwide culture of safety that is decreasing costs associated with heavy-duty equipment accidents and, more importantly, saving lives. As technology leads the charge, agencies and industries are making safety measures mandatory, and encouraging the adoption of practices and products that are proven to help reduce the incidence and severity of accidents. We explore some of these initiatives here in the fleet, mining and waste management spheres.

In the Know |
A Look at Safety InitiativesMotor vehicle fatalities rose by 9% in the first half of 2016. The National Safety Council estimates that 19,100 people have been killed over the road since January, and 2.2 million were seriously injured. What’s more, this Labor Day was predicted to be the deadliest holiday period since 2008, according to the NSC.
In fact, during a recent five-year period, 556 U.S. pedestrians and cyclists were killed by side-impacts with large trucks, a statistic that is echoed across the globe. These statistics stretch across industries, from fleets to waste management to mining. As a result, major cities and countries are taking action by mandating safety measures that mitigate struck-by accidents and deaths.
Creating a Culture of Safety
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and independent research both confirm that developing a strong culture of safety has the single greatest impact on incident reduction of any process. Because of these findings, OSHA stresses that taking the steps to develop these cultures in the workplace “should be top priority for all managers and supervisors”—regardless of industry.
Heavy-duty industries have extra incentive to develop safety cultures due to the increased potential for danger on job sites and around heavy-duty equipment.
PRECO's Newest Technologies Take Safety into the Future |
PRECO unveiled two new breakthrough safety technologies this month, and we could not be more excited to share them with the public. At MINExpo International 2016, we introduced our newest breakthrough object detection technology, PreView Sentry. We also launched our new PreView Side Defender, the industry’s most advanced side object detection solution, at the 66th annual IAA Commercial Vehicles Conference in Hannover, Germany.
