Preco Electronics President & CEO
With 2017 officially in swing, it’s exciting to look forward to all the year still has to offer. We have seen incredible success with the release of PreView Sentry and Side Defender and anticipate continued growth and interest as more companies and OEMs discover the value these systems offer.
OEMs are especially responsive to these new systems because they offer more flexibility than ever before and are working on ways to further integrate them into the other advanced features now being offered. At CONEXPO 2017 a record number of PreView Radar systems were installed on OEM vehicles and equipment. We are proud to have been part of the McNeilus FLEX Controls concrete mixer with PreView Sentry and Side Defender integrating with their system display. Genie also featured PreView Sentry on their lift platform protection demonstration in the show’s Tech Experience.

FMVSS 111 and the Future of Medium and Heavy-Duty Safety
Set to go into partial effect on May 1, 2017, the federal FMVSS 111 aims to improve drivers’ rear-visibility fields of view.
Certain vehicles with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less must implement a rear-visibility field of view system. According to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard FMVSS 111, vehicles up to this weight limit that have been altered on or after this date must have a rear-view system comprised of an exterior camera and in-vehicle monitor. Vehicles in this size range manufactured on or after May 1, 2018 must have full rear-view visibility compliance. These systems must meet specific performance requirements, and must provide drivers with a field of view that includes a 10-foot by 20-foot zone directly behind the vehicle.
|Innovative Object Detection Integrations|
McNeilus showcased their new FLEX Controls System on a concrete mixer in March at CONEXPO 2017. This advanced system brings all of the machine’s information together and consolidates it onto one display, while also providing the ability to add or remove options as necessary.
As part of the demonstration, PRECO’s PreView Sentry and Side Defender were integrated into the FLEX Controls System mobile tablet display, which is connected to the mixer via WiFi. As a collision avoidance solution, the McNeilus team installed a Sentry sensor on the front and rear of the truck and Side Defender on the driver and passenger side to provide full blind spot coverage.
|PRECO Customer Success Stories - City of Bunnell|
Less than six months after he took over the City of Bunnell’s solid waste department, Perry Mitrano was subbing for one of his drivers and came within inches of killing someone. It was an anguished, unforgettable moment. And it reaffirmed to Mitrano, his department, and the residents of Bunnell that their modest investment in a PRECO Electronics PreView® Radar System was worth much more than the cost of the equipment itself.
